AcuraCoat® Coating Properties
AcuraCoat® HARD COATINGS SPECIFICATIONS
REFLECTIVE:
Reflective hard coatings reduce radiant heat transfer through the window and also reflect outside heat and a portion of the incoming solar energy, thus reducing heat gain. The Reflective coating consists of a uniform single layer and is based on silicon. The optical properties (e.g. reflection level, color) can be tuned within certain limits, to meet customer specification. Appearance: Silver
LOW E:
Low Emissivity hard coated glass controls heat transfer through windows resulting in a reduction in energy loss by as much as 30%. Low E coatings are microscopically thin, virtually invisible, metal or metallic oxide layers deposited directly on the surface of the glass. The Low E coating consists of two layers (or layer combinations) to achieve target properties. The under coat provides the color suppression and barrier properties, and the top coat provides the Low E properties. The AcuraCoat® system is capable of producing the following Low E properties:
■ Sheet Resistance: 15 – 19 Ω/□
■ Uniformity: Per ASTM 1376-97
■ Toughenability: Possible
■ Visible Transmission : T ≥ 80%
■ Reflection: R < 13%
■ Hemispherical Emissivity: 0.15 – 0.18
■ Haze: 0.8%
■ Appearance: Clear
SOLAR CONTROL:
Solar Control glass is a good glass for hot climates. In addition to improving the insulating ability of windows, it also limits solar heat gain by blocking the passage of infrared and some ultraviolet rays. Solar Control glass allows a higher level of visible light to pass through a window with less solar heat gain reduction than tinted window coatings. The Solar Control hard coating consists of three layers. The lower layer is SiCO, the top layers are antimony and fluorine doped tin oxide. The film imparts a combination of both Solar Control and Low E properties. The AcuraCoat® system is capable of producing the following Solar Control properties:
■ Sheet Resistance: < 20 Ω/□
■ Uniformity: Per ASTM 1376-97
■ Toughenability: Possible
■ Visible Transmission: T = 50-60%
■ Reflection: R < 10%
■ Shading Coefficient: 0.6
■ Emissivity: 0.17 - 0.2
■ Haze: <1%
■ Appearance: Neutral blue - gray
PHOTOVOLTAIC:
Photovoltaic hard coatings also know as solar cells converts sunlight into electricity. The Photovoltaic coating consists of two layers. The lower layer is silica based and acts to block sodium and to provide a strong foundation for the conductive layer. The conductive layer is fluorine doped tin oxide. The AcuraCoat® system is capable of producing the following Photovoltaic properties:
■ Uniformity: Per ASTM 1376-97
■ Toughenability: Possible
■ Visible Transmission: >82%
■ Haze/scatter: Typically 5-10% (optimized for PV application)
SELF CLEAN:
The Self Clean or the Hydrophilic glass coating sheds water more quickly than standard glass and resists water spotting and dirt accumulation. The Self Clean coating, applied to a window’s exterior, makes the surface smoother than conventional glass and hydrophilic. Hydrophilic molecules attract water molecules and they blend together, making water a very good solvent in many situations. Therefore, rainwater collects in sheets, slides off glass quickly, and actually cleans the surface more readily than conventional glass. The Self Clean coating consists of two layers. The lower layer is silica based and acts to block sodium diffusion and to provide a strong foundation for the active layer. The active layer is based on a crystalline titania. The AcuraCoat® system is capable of producing the following Self Clean properties:
■ Uniformity: Per ASTM 1376-97
■ Toughenability: Possible
■ Visible Transmission: T >82%
■ Reflection: R < 13%
■ Appearance: Clear
